by the romney campaign to refocus, to somehow reset. you know, you talk to carl cameron and he talks to those sroebgs everthose folks every day to get a sense of how the battleground states are setting. they want to make it a leadership election not just a stewardship election. they want to really change the focus, perhaps than just the economic numbers especially in the wake of some of these foreign policy decisions. i think, you know, he's had some interesting nuggets in it. how the election goes over the next 50 days we'll see whether that piece plays in history or not. i think, you know, if the romney campaign is able to turn this around, clearly president obama has gained some steam in some of these battleground states. and i should point out, maybe that is a good transition, that's why we are here in ohio. jon: speaking oftleground states. >> reporter: that's right. this place is a focus for both campaigns. vice president joe biden is here, paul ryan is here today in iowa, and we are focused here in jasper county, one of about 30 counties around the country that we believe this election
: chief political correspondent carl cameron is live in jacksonville, florida with more for us now. hi, carl. >> reporter: good afternoon, mitt romney this morning both grieving and morning the loss of american officials overseas and criticizing the obama administration for its handling of all of this. last night mr. romney read a statement from the u.s. embassy in cairo,egypt in which they had said that the u.s. does not support the type of movie trailer that the extremists say sparked their attacks on u.s. missions and other places across the country. when mr. romney saw that initial response from the u.s. embassy in cairo he was quite critical and said that now is not the time to be apologizing. there has been kreu criticism overnight of him for having got even in too soon and sort of stuck his foot in his mouth and pulled the trigger on criticism politically in the case of an international crisis unfolding. he said the statement from the u.s. embassy in cairo was taken off the web by the white house. the the administration said at one point it didn't reflect the u.s. position in al

getting underway tomorrow in charlotte, north carolina. carl cameron is 230 miles east of charlotte live in greenville where the republican vice vice presidential candidate paul ryan is holding a rally. is this ryan sort of bracketing the democrats? >> reporter: leading the charge, in fact. and the barbecue's good in greenville too, jon. jon: probably better. >> reporter: paul ryan will be at the head of the parade for the republicans as they try to set about this entire week trying to wrack, as they say -- bracket, but it really means undercut what democrats are doing in charlotte. mr. ryan will seize on the question yesterday, they haven't quite figured out what the democrats' message is when asked if if the country's better off than it was four years ago. initially, a top democratic surrogate said, well, no, and now the obama campaign is very aggressively trying to turn that around and say by any measure, the economy is better. republicans in turn jump on that. so paul ryan today will take the stage here in greenville and rally north carolina, a state where president obama won last ye
the cuff and not elegantly stated. we are less than 50 days from the election. carl cameron is live in dallas where governor romney will meet with his supporters a little later on today. tell us more about this video, carl. >> reporter: obviously it came from may in a closed fund-raiser and the video is likely to be released in its entirety later today by the liberal magazine mother jones who put it out on the web yesterday and started the real close scrutiny and national attention to all of this. interesting today mitt romney will actually open a fund-raiser in salt lake city to cameras. this is something that had been in the works for several weeks and was not caused by the video of the now several month-old fund-raiser. the controversy is now wide open. here is more of what mr. romney said. >> 47 are with him, who are dependent upon government who believe they are victims, who believe the government has the responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing, to you name it. that entitlement, the government has the responsibility
